Advanced Photometric Analyzer Purchased for the Electrolysis Department

Last week, a calcium and magnesium ion photometric analyzer from the globally known Swiss company Metrohm was delivered to the electrolysis room of the membrane chlorine and caustic soda production department. KARPATNAFTOCHIM purchased this new generation analytical instrument by virtue of the fact that service life of the similar instrument, which has been in operation since the chlorine and caustic soda plant was started in 2010, has expired.

On the same day, a specialist of Unilab LLC – exclusive representative of Metrohm, manufacturer of laboratory and production-analytical equipment, in Ukraine – arrived from Kyiv to our company on purpose. Furthermore, this company maintains business with leading European and global manufacturers of similar equipment.

In our conversation, Vitalii Tkachuk, а Unilab representative, pointed that the ion analyzer ordered and purchased by KARPATNAFTOCHIM was designed with the support of German engineers and was tested directly in Germany. In this case, the customer’s base values of control and measuring parameters and the specific features of the electrolysis process were taken into account. In fact, the total concentration of calcium and magnesium ions in brine is very important, and exceedance of specifications can result in failure of ion exchange membranes.

According to the interlocutor, the ion analyzer made for KARPATNAFTOCHIM is based on the photometric principle of measurement. It is highly sensitive to calcium and magnesium ions contained in brine, and automatically provides very accurate measurements, operating in the range from 0 to 200 micrograms per liter.

Vitalii Tkachuk also reported that he expects it will take two days to complete the dismantling of the old analytical instrument and installation and commissioning of a new photometric ion analyzer manufactured by Metrohm in the electrolysis room of the membrane chlorine and caustic soda production department. In addition, the Unilab specialist emphasized that their company would be ready to undertake the basic maintenance of the analyzer.
