With all traditions and customs, but sitting at home…

Easter celebration by petrochemists’ family in the time of quarantine.

This year Christians celebrated Resurrection of Jesus in a different way–in the conditions of quarantine. Due to coronavirus epidemic Ukrainian people as well as people from Kalush had to refuse from many favourite traditions and customs.

Correspondent of «NK» communicated with a family of Kalush petrochemists in order to know if, in spite of quarantine, they were still able to celebrate Easter Sunday in a special way.

– Like for all Ukrainians, this year Easter for us was really a particular Day, because it was celebrated with a number of restrictions, but on the other hand, we celebrated this great holiday for the first time together with our little son Dmytryk, and this, certainly, overlaps all other unpleasant moments, – tells an operator of the division of industrial waste waters treatment and neutralization of «KARPATNAFTOCHIM» Ltd., Yaryna Kurtash (currently is on maternity leave-Author’s words). – Surely, we wanted, like it was before, to go with all our family to the church and to sanctify Easter basket, but as far as we all appeared to be in the situation, in which we should change our traditions for the sake of people’s health and life, we listened to Divine Worship on line.

– Regarding the direct celebration of Easter, it took place at home in a close family circle without visits and outings, – adds a forwarding agent of transport department of  material-technical  equipment procurement and completing of «KARPATNAFTOCHIM» Ltd., Oleg Kurtash. – But nevertheless, customs at preparation for Holiday were left the same… Mother baked Easter cakes and other pastries; we also, as usual, made our own meat products, dyed and painted eggs, as well as cleaned the house, yard, etc.

Moreover, in order not to go out extra time to the shop for purchase of different ready-made decorations for Easter baskets, this year we made them by the method, like it was in childhood, – by means of natural leaf-technique. We also created decorations for Easter cakes by themselves…

– Our little son, recently only half a year old, was also involved in these preparations, – tells Yaryna. – Even though kneading and baking of Easter cakes is really a responsible deal, granny Olya with pleasure allowed Dmytryk to participate and to knead the dough with his little hands (is laughing – Author’s words). Our sonny also for the first time in life tasted the sanctified egg and Easter cake, and liked them very much.

Certainly, the quarantine brought some negative moments in our life, but at the same time it gave us the possibility to spend more time with our dearest, to communicate and get to know each other better.

– The most important in Easter is its spiritual welfare, because Resurrection of Jesus is the basis of our faith and our whole life, – summarizes Oleg. – Observance of folk traditions in preparation to Holiday, choice of dishes  gives us the chance to remember who we are and where are we from, as well as to protect our national identity.
